Tequila is a distilled beverage made from the blue agave plant, primarily in the area surrounding the city of Tequila 65 km northwest of Guadalajara, and in the Jaliscan Highlands of the central western Mexican state of Jalisco.
Anejo - rich and dark, aged at least one year, usually in used oak barrels from Kentucky from which it picks up a strong flavor that will remind you of a fine bourbon. Excellent in a snifter.
Blanco - silver or white tequila, very young, hardly aged at all. Has a strong agave flavor.
Gold - tequila made from 100% blue agave, which is the best.
Mescal - like tequila, but not tequila. Distilled just once, not twice. This can come from any region in Mexico.
Reposado - this means rested, usually two to eleven months, no longer. Not as edgy as a blanco, also great by itself.
